MORT X AZURA
Keep in mind this is future events
Now after the princess and Morticia escaped from the castle, it took some time for Morticia to recover somewhat from her shock, as the whole incident had shaken her very core terribly. During this time the princess kept her safe and hidden, with a few surviving civilians, some of which informed her of the heresay that all borders were closed to anyone. This frustrated the princess but there wasn't much they could do about that, and was likely to be true unfortunately, no use worrying about it now really.
During this time their tactics were purely defensive with the aim of running and staying away from the threats for as long as possible, and aiming to scavenge for food when they could.
Unfortunately they'd come to notice a dark kia going around and using some kind of power to blacken and foul much of the food and water sources around, which made it especially difficult to survive.
"Hey what's been going on?" Morticia spoke for the first time in a while, relieved the princess gave her a run down of the situation, and explained that they'd worked out that the evil kia had most of the undead be simple puppets, with very limited autopilot, and only kias deemed special in some way such has having a good power like Mort, does she save enough of their mind to be able to function independently with complexity, so as long as they hid they could not be found, however Mort was a different story, they needed to be careful of him because he liked to check every nook and cranny and knew how to ambush. They'd lost many learning that.
But learning that the evil kia disliked taking risks was valuable information, and is clearly not stupid.
And turned out they can totally stab and rip up the corpses enough so that they can't put themselves back together, as they reformed endlessly unless you tore them apart. Brutal thankless work.
And that they only have several survivors left.
She'd had enough of all this, "Alright, let's make her regret taking over this kingdom, we're going on the attack, it'll be dangerous, but we can get rid of these never ending corpses if we keep at it and never falter! And I'm getting my father back!" Unfortunately all but Morticia and the princess declined to take part, they were too fearful of the evil kia to think they ever stood a chance. So just the two of them set out and start dealing with the problem.
It takes a long time. The number of corpses were many, and by the time the corpses were low enough for the evil kia to consider abandoning ship, the entire kingdom's ground was thick with blood and what was left of the corpses. Not suprising really, they've had to literally slowly kill off millions of undead corpses, thank goodness they burnt that's for sure. Once the numbers were significantly lowered, the two girls headed for the capital, planning to take on the evil kia and rescue Morticia's father.
BIT FOR THE RP BIT ABOUT FIGHTING THE FAE KIA AND TRYING TO GET THROUGH TO MORT - they end up teleporting away and "You can't take him from me, don't you dare!!" Morticia loses it "NOOOOoooooo" a heartwrenching shriek escaped her lips as she desperately scrambled to where her father had just been, grasping at the thing air as if she could still reach him
After all that, they ended up deciding to systematically go through the entire kingdom and destroy any undead they came across, to rid the kingdom of the issue so that the borders would open up again...This took many years. Both girls were adults by the time they were done. Morticia had only been around twelve to thirteen years old when she'd started her intial journey. Despite the eradication of the undead, it takes even more time for the borders to slowly open up again. Shortly after this it came to light that they ended up being the only survivors left alive in the entire kingdom that'd been plagued by the undead. The rest had perished or been turned into undead themselves.
They did not come out unscathed however, terribly messed up in the head, and likely ptsd, they rely on each other heavily to not go totally insane after it all ended, particularly Morticia, as her father weighed heavily on her heart, the guilt she felt for her father still suffering after all this time and it was all her fault, threatened to break her, however the duty she feels towards saving her father at the same time helps in keeping her going.
But after losing her dad a secound time, she feels like the only thing she has left in life is the princess. Due to all this, after everything they went through together, they stick together because nobody on the planet knows what they went through or understands more than each other.
On the flip side, the kingdom has become extremely fertile land because of all the death and the two girls make a lot of produce/crops during their years of solitude, assisted greatly by the knowledge Azura gave her daughter about farming. Selling the surplus fruit and making an industry out of marketing their high quality produce ends up being the biggest factor in rebuilding the kingdom.
Even though they weren't expecting anything out of this, due to all their actions, they became heroes.
The few that got out before everything went mad, are really thankful that everyone got buried and all, so the girls neglect to mention that everyone is also being used as fertilizer.
Not like they want to remember it anyways.
Both of them end up deciding to assist in properly rebuilding the kingdom, tearing down the old castle and rebuilding everything anew and all. New castle means new beginnings. Morticia at this point does want to try and get her father back still, to bring him to peace at least, but she doesn't want to blindly chase off into the wing because at this point she's also just super tired because so long ago now she ran away to become an assassin/outlaw when she was only a young teen, honestly this had all completely worn her out. So she just waits patiently for a chance to arise or any sort of word of sighting in any other kingdom. Surely after a few years recovery and slow regrouping in the kingdom, someone's bound to know something.
Morticia ends up always feeling terribly guilty, thus she will always jump at the chance to change something if anything arises about the evil kia. Her end goal is to at the very least bring justice to her dad.
Something that causes her heartache on a consistent basis from the kingdom's rebuilding and onwards, is that the new nobles and civilians give her the nickname of 'Mort', and it just hurts extensively every time. She hates that they all try and be friendly with her just because her and the princess end up being in charge due to unanimous vote. At first she would introduce herself to people that came into the kingdom to settle, as Morticia, as it sounded more important than Raven, especially as keeping herself as Morticia also helps via Mal and Azura to prove she's royalty thus is very much up to the challenge of being the new royal line in the reestablished kingdom. This was to prevent more civil war, and further violence, both herself and the princess were all too aware that if either of them didn't take up the throne at this point, it'd be a never ending bloodbath, and that option sickened them, as much as they were reluctant to take up this much responsibility. Morticia felt she owed it to her father as well, to help make up for the damage he caused while under the control of the evil kia. But once people started nicknameing her Mort she was like oh shit no. So asks people to call her something different, which ends up being Raven, or something meaning as such. Unfortunately for the most part the nickname sticks. Partly as a result of her actions and her birthname, the public easily decided that Morticia = mortician = killer of all the corpses = Mort.
Bards, writers, and the public in general end up choosing her as the main hero, and the legends and ballads people retell end up making her over time seem more masculine, further cementing Mort as her name. Simply because of the times, people were more comfortable with a male hero. They did similar with the princess, except instead lightening what the princess did over time, and making her out to be more of an innocent one.
They both hate this so much! Their expressions when people say the falsities around them are enough to have people reduce the amount of times they speak about it in front of them, but Morticia still hears occasional whispers her whole life of "Mort" which bugs her to the end of her time, her heart breaking just a little every time, but they don't say it to her face anymore so she can't really reprimand them. Neither of the two ladies want to start to seem like the old king and forcing people to do stuff like not say a name and all. So while they're super frustrated and remind people they don't like these things, they don't enforce it for obvious reasons. But at the same time she's sorta happy that her father's name hs become part of such a positive legend. Like his legacy at least in a way, won't be forgotten. She's proud of that.
In the future, after a fair while has passed, at least a hundred years, people totally find Mort's grave, his memorial still relatively intact, and enough time has passed that people have forgotten that Mort and Morticia weren't the same person. They think that the princess did marry a male kia and all, and look they've found his grave! They are certain it's the grave of the legendary Mort that saved the kingdom and it sorta becomes a shrine. Especially due to it being that songs, ballads, and legends are the things that get passed on not the actual facts.
Azura ends up next to Mort's grave, so in the field where Mort is buried that gains a shrine, and ends up becoming a memorial park that hosts an annual festival dedicated to the legend of Mort.
The fesitval is a massive event, lasting more than a week, and being celebrated all over the kingdom, all about the legend of Mort and how he saved the kingdom and people pay a lot of money to visit the shrine every year, and al because it ends up a famous legend, partly due to this the kingdom continues to be prosperous too.
We imagine that Morticia would be buried next to the princess, if anywhere, but at the site of the castle, with simple graves, they almost went for unmarked graves because "We're noone special we were just in the right place at the right time." Yet Mort and Azura have these fancy ass graves, particularly Mort so that really does not help the confusion. The kids of these two girls and their descendants kow the truth, and are also annoyed by it, but they say nothing as they don't want to tarnish the name of Mort because they understand it meant a lot to Morticia. Meanwhile the two ladies are rolling in their graves like "You guys have no clue!" Rolling around in their graves so much they might come back to life haha, yelling "Listen here you fucking idiots let us set y'all straight!" Reckon the two girls ask to be cremated, but to still have graves where the ashes are just simply due to them being all too aware of how the evil kia can bring back bodies from the dead and they don't want that to happen to them. This is a big part of why people don't know who they actually were as the ashes can't be used for identification unless they can be dna tested. Which lends to further confusion and difficulty understanding these two graves, and who on earth were they, clearly they had some sort of role right?
Normally if royal at least, you'd be able to visit a corpse or even have a family catacomb, but no.
At least people remember the two graves are very important, and thus look after them, but certainly don't know why! Morticia ended up wanting to be buried in the castle garden as a homage to her mother, because while she was a daddy's girl she couldn't forget the heartache she caused her mother to run away at such a young age. As a result of the graves' location, the flowers in that part of the garden are super healthy and vibrant. Eventually this leads to a story gradually forming about the two graves.
So they end up being the two in the stories that did "magic" on the kingdom's crops right after the whole Mort legend so the famous kia could recover from his big fight and all, otherwise he was going to be mortally wounded, or so the story goes. They say the magic is still active to this day, that's why the crops throughout the kingdom are so healthy and plentiful, and where they're buried the flowers bloom the best because they had "magic". Quite a creative story the people came up with really.
During a retelling to children:
"They were magician friends of Mort, now kids what do friends do when you're in trouble~?"
"HELP YOU"
"And so the two magicians used aaall of their magic to make food for their friend and saviour, but collapsed where they stood because it was too great a magic, a forbidden one, that is why you can't find out how to do it, too dangerous to write down after all..."
"And so thankful, Mort made them special graves, and their spirits were so pleased they always make the flowers around them bloom~!"
"Weren't the friend's of Mort amazing?"
"YEAH"
As for the evil kia, whom, in case this was not mentioned before, is herself immortal, has hidden herself in a very deep chasm in a very isolated area, until Morticia and co all die off because they messed with her plans too much already once before, she doesn't want to risk dealing with them again. Just taking her time preparing spells, curses and the like, biding her time like immortals do. Which is why Morticia never hears enough on the evil kia to actively find her father.
Unfortunately as a result, Morticia could never rest in peace herself because she never saves her dad, eventually haunting the castle and being one of a few ghosts that appear to random strangers, but they refer to her as the wandering princess. Unfortunately noone living can hear her, so she just shouts at them going "LET ME TELL YOU" "YOU HAVE NO CLUE" Yet her ghost being seen around the castle solidifies the story about the two magicians, as they see her around her grave a lot, thus assume she's taking care of the flowers.
Suprisingly, what she actually does, is be a guardian ghost of sorts over her individuals from her bloodline that she ends up fond of. In particular there is a great great great (300+ years into the future) grandkid that looks near identical to Mort. That one is her favourite, and Morticia's ghost becomes particularly attached to this kid because he just looks so much like her dad she can't help it.
During this time their tactics were purely defensive with the aim of running and staying away from the threats for as long as possible, and aiming to scavenge for food when they could.
